Epoxy coatings differ from paints in that they contain two components which we mix together on site. The first ‘part’ is the epoxy resin to which the color pigment is added, and the second part is the ‘hardener’, which reacts with the resin to begin the curing process. This chemical reaction binds the polymers in a crosslinked formation, meaning that this coating cures to be extremely durable and long-lasting.
Most epoxies can only be used on interior surfaces as they are susceptible to UV damage. The standard, high-quality epoxies that we typically use require two coats that adhere directly to bare concrete, which then have the option to be decorated with a variety of flake colors before being coated with an extremely durable clear protective finish.
